Introduction

This Insurance and Liability Policy outlines the insurance coverage and liability considerations associated with my independent speech and language therapy practice. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that adequate protection is in place for both me and my clients and to provide clarity on the scope of coverage and liability.

Maintaining appropriate insurance cover is an important part of practising safely and in accordance with the professional standards of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Purpose of the Policy

The purpose of this policy is to outline the types of insurance coverage in place for the practice, define the extent of liability coverage, ensure that both the practice and clients are protected in case of unforeseen events, and provide information on how to address issues related to insurance and liability.

Insurance Coverage

I maintain professional indemnity and legal expenses insurance through the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) membership scheme. This insurance covers legal costs and potential compensation payments in the event of a claim. I also have legal expenses insurance, along with professional indemnity – these insurances are both provided by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. Additionally, public liability insurance is in place to cover incidents that might occur on my premises, including any accidental injuries to clients or third parties.

Liability Considerations

Professional indemnity insurance covers claims related to professional advice or services provided during therapy. Professional indemnity insurance provides protection in relation to claims arising from the professional services I provide. Public liability insurance covers incidents involving accidental injury or damage occurring during the delivery of services.

Exclusions and Limitations

Insurance coverage may have exclusions and limitations. These may include claims arising from criminal acts or deliberate misconduct, claims related to activities outside the scope of professional practice, and situations where insurance premiums have not been paid or policy conditions have not been met. It is important to be aware of these exclusions and limitations to understand the scope of coverage.

Client Responsibilities

Clients are expected to follow reasonable safety guidance during therapy sessions to support a safe environment for everyone involved.

Reporting and Claims

In the event of an incident or claim, it is essential to report any issues or concerns promptly to me. Clients should provide all relevant details and documentation related to the incident and cooperate with any investigations or claims processes as required by the insurance policy.

Any incidents or concerns should be reported promptly so they can be documented and managed in line with my incident reporting procedures.

Policy Review and Updates

This policy will be reviewed annually or as needed to ensure it remains accurate and effective. Updates to the policy will be communicated to all relevant parties.
